MaxScholar Orton-Gillingham Software {Review}

(Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.)

My sons have been working on reading comprehension through MaxScholar Orton-Gillingham Software from MaxScholar.

When first beginning, the teacher login is the best place to go.

Here, you will be able to set up each of your students. You will be able to decide if you want them to take a placement test, or simply choose a level for them. We started out having them both do placement tests, but it seemed to continue for days, and since I didn’t want their frustration level to become overwhelming, so I finally went back into the teacher section and reset it, allowing for no placement test. However, if you really unsure of where your student(s) belong, maybe set them one grade above where you thing they might be, and do a placement test from there. You can decide if you want them to work on Latin and/or Greek roots. I chose not to have them do that at this time, but will very probably add them in later.

when your student logs in, they will see their own welcome screen, and can choose from there where they would like to go!

“The Artist” really likes the MAXPLACES, because he likes geography quite a bit.

In the photos above, he is learning more about Petra, which is in the mountains of Jordan. He had to read a text section about Petra, and then answer questions about it.

One of “The Batman’s” favorite things was MAXMUSIC. He said he liked the fact that at least in one of the artist’s sections, he was given an on screen keyboard to play the music.

Something that I like in MAXMUSIC is that the student can choose an artist and learn about him or her specifically.

Here is “The Batman” working in MAXMUSIC. He is matching sounds.

His other, and perhaps even most favorite section, was doing the wordsearch puzzles in MAXVOCAB. This is one of his puzzles!

“The Batman” did NOT care for the section below.

He, like his brother, is a very avid reader. I’m thrilled about that, as both his dad and I have always been avid readers. However, he’s not enjoying spelling rules, or lessons lessons on syllables, and is struggling with them. For the most part though, both boys enjoy the educational games within this program.

I truly didn’t think this would be a good fit here because both of our boys are very good readers. It did turn out to be good for them though, because it has shown that they need work in certain areas that were unexpected by me. I ended up very happy to have received this product for review!
