Anniversary!

This past Friday Night, my husband took me to dinner at Outback Restaurant for our 27th anniversary. It was SUPPOSED to be a surprise, but a couple of kids accidentally let slip that something was up. But that was OK, because it gave me the opportunity to mess with them on the actual day, lol! I came downstairs on Friday lazing around in grubs, hadn’t showered yet, etc. One of my kids was frantic all day trying to get me to go get showered and dressed up, and when my husband got home went running to tell him. At that point, he told said child that I knew, and I headed up to get ready. It was so funny!

He took my picture before I could stop him, and I didn’t even realize that my necklace was all askew! Oh well, that’s OK, it was a lovely evening alone with my husband!

Mr. Loquacious Had Surgery!

This past Tuesday, on June 27, 2017, “Mr. Loquacious” had to have surgery on his broken nose. For which we had to travel to Los Alamos, NM. We had to leave home by 4:30 a.m., as I had to get him checked in by 6:45 a.m.

He asked me to record him after and get him to say goofy things, and I agreed, provided he allow me to use the video on this blog. He said it was OK. For the record, I did not even have to get him to say silly things, lol!

First up, pre-surgery photos!

Now, Post-op photos . . .

And finally, videos!

And Mr. “I’m not tired!” yesterday . . .

Amazing Milestone For “The Batman!”

So, as those who know me personally are aware, our son “The Batman” has never been able to tie his shoes. He simply couldn’t make his fingers do the job. Once we could no longer get velcro shoes for him, we found curly laces, which have been perfect for years.

Recently though, I took him out for new sneakers. He REALLY wanted Batman sneakers, because we have a friend who portrays Batman in Heroes Alliance NM, and he showed our “Batman” HIS Batman sneakers. Well, by the time we got around to getting him some, all they had were high tops. Sadly, the curly laces are just not long enough.

Our “Batman” was determined to learn to properly tie his Batman sneakers, so my husband went to YouTube and found a good, easy instructional video, which you can view here.

It really only took a few minutes of practicing with his new sneakers, and now, he’s tying them like a pro!

And our friend Batman from Heroes Alliance NM allowed me to use the following picture for Our “Batman,” who also, by the way, did in fact give me permission to write about him finally being able to tie on my blog.

A Special Fundraiser We Attended!

On Thursday April 27, 2017, the boys and I attended a special, public fundraiser for Scleroderma Awareness. There were some very special guests there, in addition to some of the children in this area who live with this disease every day, but before I get to these special guests, let me tell you some of what I learned about this disease.

Scleroderma is a rare and debilitating autoimmune disease for which there is no cure. It is often progressive and sometimes, it is fatal. It affects every age and gender. It’s neither preventable or contagious. It confuses even the best of the medical field because it’s difficult to diagnose.

Scleroderma attacks the Vascular System, cutting off blood flow to extremities, resulting in gangrene and amputation. It affects the Gastrointestinal Tract, Heart, Kidneys, Lungs, and Esophagus.  It causes hardening, thickening, and tightening of the skin which often causes devastating results to one’s facial appearance and one’s mobility.

For more information, please check out the Scleroderma Foundation.

Now, do you want to know who came out for this fundraiser? Here are some pictures of my kids and me, along with the special guests who come out to raise funds for special causes such as this, for absolutely no charge!

All of these superheroes are from the “Heroes Alliance NM”. Please, definitely go and check them out, they are the best, I’m telling you. They do this on their own time, tirelessly, with no pay. They care.

Captain Absolutely . . . Our Review

My boys have discovered graphic novels, but most of them that we have found have in my husband’s and my opinion to be really way too mature for our boys. Because of this, I was thrilled to introduce them to Captain Absolutely from Focus On The Family!
Captain Absolutely is over one hundred pages of exciting comic book style story which had the boys captivated. As a matter of fact, I was barely able to even get the mailing package open when “The Artist” had it GONE from my hands, lol! He had it finished in less than two hours!

The other boys are also enjoying this story, although they have yet to get it completed as they all read slower than does “The Artist.”
Captain Absolutely comes to us from Focus On The Family,
and it is a spin off of the  Adventures in Odyssey series, a program that I can remember playing on the car radio for my kids when they were young and we had to run errands during the time it was being broadcast. We really enjoyed the program, so I was sure they would love this book! I was right, too!
Captain Absolutely tells us the story of librarian Josiah King. When there is an explosion, he takes shelter in a room full of Bibles, and while waiting to be rescued from the rubble, he begins reading the Bible, which he’s never seen before. In fact, the sign says they are BANNED! You see, Metropolitanville, where the library is, happens to be a city where anything goes, nobody has any sense of right or wrong.
During this time while stuck in the room reading, the city’s radioactive core was leaking, and slowly filling the room. By morning, a great change had happened to him, and as seems to always be the comic book way that superheros are made, the radioactive leak has made him into CAPTAIN ABSOLUTELY! And, like all superheros, Captain Absolutely has a nemesis. His name is Dr. Relative, who goes by the world view that right and wrong is changeable based on what is best for him at any given moment.
“The Artist” just told me that his favorite character is Lord Foulspleen. He says this is because he is  former time traveler who destroyed priceless works of art, until Captain Absolutely arrested him. When he was in prison, he turned his life over to The Lord, showing that everyone can get a second chance. Now he works at the Art Museum and supports Captain Absolutely. He also says it was fun to do the questions in the back of the book. You can check your answers because it gives the page number that goes with the questions.
“The Artist” also likes that the book says “God’s Word is true, but it’s not always simple. Discuss these questions with a parent or youth pastor as you dig deeper into Captain Absolutely.”
