The Starfall Home Membership, from Starfall Education Foundation: Our Review

I was very interested in this review of The Starfall Home Membership, because even though the grade levels included are considerably younger than “Mr. loquacious” and “The Puzzler”, They both really need help in the areas included. At the same time, “Mr. Locquatious” was not at all happy about the grade levels listed. I’ll talk more about that later. This online, fun learning program is from Starfall Education Foundation, and we were given a one year subscription to The Starfall Home Membership. The Starfall Home Membership can be used by multiple people, and so I had my twins using it for the purpose of this review.

I will, now that the review period is over, continue with them using it, along with letting “The Batman” use it. With his disabilities, he is probably at the same level as “The Puzzler” is when it comes to math.

One of the things I like the best about this program is that I was able to pretty much let “Mr. loquacious” and “The Puzzler” sit down at the computer and just go! I love that something can be that easy to get going with. There is, however, a Complete Guide to using Starfall. This will show you skills appropriate for each grade level, as well as how they will go along with the mobile app activities. Oh, did I forget to mention that in addition to the computer website, you can use The Starfall Home Membership on your  using an Android, Kindle or iOS device.

We did just use the Computer for this review, because I don’t have a very good tablet, and I don’t let my kids use my phone, but the computer version worked well for us. Both boys were easily able to find their way around without my help, and both concentrated on the math section. “Mr. loquacious” needs review, and “The Puzzler” is developmentally delayed enough that I need to have him working in the first grade section.

Here is “The Puzzler” working in one of the math sections . . .

IMG_20180227_104301

And “Mr. loquacious” in another math area . . .

IMG_20180226_144343

The Starfall Home Membership paid subscription includes hundreds of printables for:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Math
  • Books
  • Awards to print out

There is a section with songs: counting songs, alphabet songs, and just fun songs. There are also books which the child can read, or if need be, you can read to the child. They go from early, beginning reading to more advanced readers as the child progresses.

Earlier I mentioned that “Mr. loquacious” was not happy about having to do “second grade.” I did need to talk him into not looking at the “grade” level, and just think of it as level 2. He became (grudgingly) willing to give it a try, but I kind of wish that it would be labeled by level rather than grade.

The Starfall Home membership from Starfall Education Foundation is aligned with The Common Core, if that is important to you.

My boys and I absolutely recommend The Starfall Home membership to you! It is a fun, educational addition to the day, and for my boys, it gets them around the whole “one hour per day” for video games.

New Freezer Meals!

You all know how much our family has been enjoying my membership to MyFreezEasy, right? Well, my son “The Artist” and I just yesterday finished another session of freezer meal prep, and boy, does our menu look so good for the next couple of weeks! This is what we prepared:

IMG_20180220_182159

This makes two meals of each recipe, and in actuality, there was enough of the Bacon meatloaf to prepare three loaves for the freezer!

Here is “The Artist,” mixing up some of the meatloaf . . .

IMG_20180220_165737

Here is one of the completed recipes, a Keto recipe called Bacon Meatloaf. This is the very first time we have used Almond flour!

IMG_20180220_162105

Here, we have 13 meals for the freezer, two each of Ritzy Meatloaf, Slow Cooker Cheesy Salsa Chicken, Slow Cooker Chicken Gyros, and Slow Cooker Shredded Mojo Pork. There are three bacon meatloaves, and since there was enough extra boneless chicken breast, we set that up in two freezer meals with BBQ sauce.

Here is the bounty of a couple of hours worked!

Doesn’t it look good?

It’s going to be good eating at our house! if you’d like to check out MyFreezEasy, and try a menu for free, please go here! You won’t be disappointed!

Wulf the Saxon From Heirloom Audio Productions: My Review

Once again, our family has had the great pleasure of listening to, and reviewing an audio adventure from Heirloom Audio Productions! This time around, we were blessed by Heirloom Audio Productions with a two CD Set of the wonderful production Wulf the Saxon, which we have so enjoyed listening to, just as we have enjoyed so many other of the terrific productions created by Heirloom Audio!

As a member of the Homeschool Review Crew, I have had the wonderful opportunity to review all but on of the “extraordinary” Adventures of G. A. Henty.

G. A. Henty was a master storyteller, and the Heirloom Audion Productions are based on the novels which he wrote in the latter part of the 1800’s. These are awesome stories, because they are stories from real, exciting history! Here is a little video from Heirloom Audio Productions to better explain the mission they have to produce wonderful, true history accounts, which will showcase the hand of God in all of our historical events.

Here are my reviews of other Heirloom Audio Productions that we have been blessed with:

In the Reign of Terror

The Cat of Bubastes

Beric the Briton

The Dragon and the Raven

With Lee in Virginia

Under Drake’s Flag

Heirloom Audio Productions also has a fairly new arm called Live the Adventure Club.

Here, you will find access to extra educational materials for the various audio adventures, articles of interest for parents, a discussion group and much more!

You’re likely wondering when I will get to telling you about Wulf the Saxon, aren’t you? Well never fear, because here we go!

Wulf the Saxon begins in England during the 1060’s, during the time when King Edward the Confessor is ruler. Wulf is page to  Earl Harold Godwinson, but he hopes one day to become a Thane ((in Anglo-Saxon England) a man who held land granted by the king or by a military nobleman, ranking between an ordinary freeman and a hereditary noble.

As a Thane, he would rule his family’s lands. As a page, he is learning to live in a way to show that he is ready for his position in life. During this time Wulf is forced to learn some hard lessons, humility and the importance of friendship, among others. He is sent away after an incident regarding his behavior, and after a time, forgiven and allowed back. He DOES become a Thane, and continues to serve the Earl, and of course, the King.

From this point on, Wulf survives a number of “adventures,” including a shipwreck and being held captive by the Normans. He learns many lessons during this time, and matures in his faith. We learn that continuing in faith is always going to make things end up as they should.

At a time in history when nobles mostly were married in order to create alliances and to prevent wars, Wulf learns that a fortunate few are able to marry for love.

This production, as always, has an awesome cast!

Freezer Meals!

As you know, we’ve been doing freezer meals for a while now. It has been the best thing ever! Now, there’s no more “oh, we forgot to check and see what we can put together for a meal, guess we’ll need to pick up fast food!” Why? because we can simply check what prepared meals are in the freezer, thaw and cook!

This is what we put together this time:

IMG_20180120_154121

We made two of each recipe for the freezer, in less than two hours of work.

Here is “The Artist” browning ground beef for the Beef Burrito Casserole, which was the only -pre-cooking needed.

IMG_20180120_121006

Shiloh thought he was going to get something, before we sent him away to play with one of the other boys!

IMG_20180120_122918

Everything is done! Nine packaged up, and one made directly in the slow cooker and put into the fridge for Sunday dinner the next day.

IMG_20180120_153131

Here are some of the meals as we’ve had them . . .

Beef Burrito Casserole . . .

Slow Cooker French Onion Chicken . . .

Rosemary Garlic Pork Chops . . .

Cheeseburger Meatloaf . . .

Tomorrow night, we’ll be having Baked Cream Cheese Chicken, then we’ll start the rotation over again! Sometime next week we’ll be doing another prep. Looking forward to deciding what meals to make!

This is where all of my freezer meals come from, and it’s one of the best household expenses I’ve ever made! Check it out at MyFreezeEazy, I bet you’ll love it as much as we do!

Milestone Birthday!

My friends, this is what sixty looks like in my house!IMG_20170924_195933

Today is my birthday, but I actually went out yesterday for an early birthday lunch . . .

IMG_20180105_145356

Which was delicious! (yes, that soup is Zuppa Toscana  and the entree is Chicken and Cheese Piadina from Olive Garden, one of my favorite places!) I also went and got my nails done . . .

This is when I am warm . . .

IMG_20180106_194043

This is when I’m cold!

IMG_20180106_194134

I just love the color changing gel polish! They didn’t go all the way dark, because I just ran cold water over my hands to make them cold, and by the time I got back into the living room for a picture, they were warming up!

I have a post yet to do about Christmas, but really wanted to post this on my actual birthday.

What We’re Freezing (And Eating)!

You all know how much I’ve been enjoying preparing & having freezer meals at the ready, right? Well, this is what we did today!

IMG_20171208_190601

This is:

  • 2 Apple Butter Glazed Chicken meals
  • 2 Honey Sesame Chicken meals
  • 2 Slow Cooker Asian Shredded Beef meals
  • 2 Slow Cooker Caribbean Chicken meals
  • 2 Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwich meals

Here are my helpers, cleaning red and orange bell peppers:

IMG_20171208_175315

An here, the Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwiches with Deviled Egg Potato salad, which we had for supper tonight!

IMG_20171208_193606

I always make my menu plan for 8 servings, and so we had enough leftover to make a couple of lunches for my husband to take to work, as well as probably enough for the kids to have for lunch, on bread instead of sub rolls.

I am able to do this because I have a premium membership to a WONDERFUL place, called My Freezeasy. Go check it out, you will NOT be sorry! My family is LOVING this! If you’d like to join, please use my affiliate link.
