My Factory Original Parts Are Wearing Out!

You all know that I recently had a total knee replacement on my right knee. Plus, the left knee still needs to be done. And, I have cataracts. Well, now my left foot is bad, too! I have possibly a torn tendon, nerve damage, a definite dislocation, and may have to have a hammertoe redone! I’m telling you . . .

Getting old is NOT for sissies!

Milestone Birthday!

My friends, this is what sixty looks like in my house!IMG_20170924_195933

Today is my birthday, but I actually went out yesterday for an early birthday lunch . . .

Which was delicious! (yes, that soup is Zuppa Toscana  and the entree is Chicken and Cheese Piadina from Olive Garden, one of my favorite places!) I also went and got my nails done . . .

This is when I am warm . . .

This is when I’m cold!

I just love the color changing gel polish! They didn’t go all the way dark, because I just ran cold water over my hands to make them cold, and by the time I got back into the living room for a picture, they were warming up!

I have a post yet to do about Christmas, but really wanted to post this on my actual birthday.

More Tangling!

Earlier this month, I took another class, this one on making Zendalas. Similar to zentangles, but round. We learned some new tangles, and used some we had already learned. Here are the ones I did in class, where we each did a traditional black pen on a white zendala tile:

and one on a black zendala tile with white jelly roll pen, followed by highlighting in our chosen color of sparkly gel pen:

I’m very pleased with mine, I thought they turned out well! Here is a link to dentangles, the blog run by one of our teachers, so that you can see the class zendalas for that day!

Definitely check out all of her blog, she has some great content! 🙂

One final thing, it’s been very busy here for the past few months, between moving, and attempting to get my own health back on track, but I am feeling some better, so I promise, no more long breaks between non-review posts. I’ll be trying to write at least every few days, I have a ton of photos to show you what we’ve been up to this summer! 🙂

Weekly Wrap-Up . . . Education for MOM! :-)

So, I have been exploring this thing called Zentangle for a little while now. When I first discovered it online, and read all the stories of people it was really helping in areas of relaxation, anxiety, even physical issues like shaky hands due to Parkinsons and other things, I knew I had to try it. Besides, it’s really, really beautiful, and you don’t even have to be an artist or have an art background to do it! I had been trying to learn what I could, from books and the internet. One favorite site is Tanglepatterns, which has an index of many, many patterns, complete with step-outs to show how to draw them.

This past weekend, I went to my very first Zentangle class with two Certified Zentangle Teachers. It was AWESOME! We learned ten different tangle patterns, and used them to make two zentangle tiles.

Here’s my first one, using patterns crescent moon, hollibaugh, printemps, static, and tipple.

During the second half of the class, we learned five more patterns, and made a tile using florz, hibred, ‘nzeppel, pokeroot and pokeleaf. Here is mine . . .

In both sessions, we also learned about aura-ing on some patterns, and how to shade to give our tiles dimension.

One of our teachers, Dennie York, has posted all of the tiles the class made on her blog dentangles. Go give it a look, and check out the rest of her blog too, it’s just become one of my favorites! 🙂

Weekly Wrap – Up . . . A Bit Less Busy!

So, this week was more of a regular week, no special meetings at church, etc, which was good, because as I may have said in a previous post, I’ve been dealing with some health issues that we’re trying to get regulated.

The boys and I took it very easy this week, as far as school stuff, although I did ask for daily piano practice. “The Artist is up to 50 minutes per day, and next week he goes to 55, then one hour per day the following week. Our teacher says at his level, he should be doing at least an hour per day, 5 days a week. I am at 30 minutes, as is “The Batman”.

I will leave you with the following video of the song I sang at church Sunday night a week ago, which was written by a good friend back in MI . . .

Windows 8.1 Is NOT Fun . . . Not At All!

However, it IS fun to be writing this on my brand new HP Pavillion that my husband bought me so that he could, in his words, “support my blogging and other writing”.

He also took the picture above, which I’d normally not publish, but I don’t feel like going and getting all fixed up just to type, lol!

I asked him to look for a Windows 8.1 For Dummies On Amazon, since he has a prime membership. He found that, and also found Windows 8.1 For Seniors For Dummies. The only difference is that the one for seniors has larger print, and the screen shot pictures are bigger, so yes, you guessed it, I said “get THAT one, please!”

I still don’t think I’ll EVER get the hang of Windows 8.1, and everyone I’ve asked about it says they just use the desktop and ignore the apps, but I’ll give the book a try, and see if I can manage. I am already kinda sick of things disappearing and going back to a previous screen if I move the cursor too quickly, though . . .
