Beautiful Art!

My husband and I had decided some time ago that if any of our kids showed a real talent in something, and a real desire to grow that talent, we would find a way to help them do so. That’s why I took “The Artist” to his first Zentangle class last month. That class was the only prerequisite to attend ANY later class, so this past Saturday, he came with me, and we both attended Zentangle 201: Back To Basics And Bijou, Too. We had a great time, working with the traditional tiles, and also the smaller Bijou tiles. Here is what we did. . .

This is the first Bijou, using the tangle Flux. This one is “The Artist’s”:

Next, we used Bijou tiles for the tangle Purk; Here is the one “The Artist” did:

The final Bijou was the tangle Betweed. Here is “The Artist’s” . . .

After doing the little Bijou tiles, we worked with the traditional tiles to make borders, after which we made cuts so that we could insert whichever Bijou monotangle we wanted to showcase. We can switch them out, too!

Here is “The Artist’s” completed set:

This is so much fun, and I feel like I am also creating real art! 🙂

Not only that, but yesterday, when I got my rebase on my nails, the lovely lady who does them had something in her samples that to me, and to “The Artist” as well, looked like a tangle, so look what she did for me!

I always get a design on one accent nail on each hand. LOVE this one, it goes with my Zentangle interest! 🙂

Homeschooling Art!

Seriously, though, the only one of our kids who is truly inclined toward Art is, of course, “The Artist”. I could fill post after post of his drawings, but today I’m just going to tell you about how much of an interest he has taken in Zentangle, something he’s been watching me do. I will be honest here, and say that I didn’t want to let him in on it, because I was selfish and knew he’d be way better at it than me concerned it would be too much for him, but last week I took him to his first Zentangle class. Here are the results.

This first photo is of the first tile they did, the one on the left is what “The Artist” did, and on the right is what one of the certified zentangle teachers did.

Here is the second tile. The one on top belongs to “The Artist”, while the other two belong to our CZT’s (certified zentangle teacher)

One of our teachers has a wonderful zentangle blog called Dentangles, and I urge you to definitely check it out!

Zia! (Zentangle Inspired Art)

Recently, I was able to attend the long awaited (by me, anyway!) Zentangle 501 Class – Organic Tangles, offered by my Certified Zentangle Teachers, Dennie York and her sister Karin Tarter. Oh, my, it was SO good! To be truthful, I really didn’t expect too much out of myself, but was willing to try, anyway, because I think ZIA is so very pretty. We learned a whole bunch of new tangles that Dennie and Karin had chosen because they were more organic appearing than some of what we had learned before, and hen we got to work on our own pieces. Here is mine, which I brought home so that I can continue working on it as inspiration strikes . . .

And here is a mosaic of all of the students pieces of art. As you can see, many of th others were braver than I was. While I practiced each new tangle on scrap paper, they went right ahead and learned as they worked on their art, and their pieces are AMAZING!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

More Tangling!

Earlier this month, I took another class, this one on making Zendalas. Similar to zentangles, but round. We learned some new tangles, and used some we had already learned. Here are the ones I did in class, where we each did a traditional black pen on a white zendala tile:

and one on a black zendala tile with white jelly roll pen, followed by highlighting in our chosen color of sparkly gel pen:

I’m very pleased with mine, I thought they turned out well! Here is a link to dentangles, the blog run by one of our teachers, so that you can see the class zendalas for that day!

Definitely check out all of her blog, she has some great content! 🙂

One final thing, it’s been very busy here for the past few months, between moving, and attempting to get my own health back on track, but I am feeling some better, so I promise, no more long breaks between non-review posts. I’ll be trying to write at least every few days, I have a ton of photos to show you what we’ve been up to this summer! 🙂

As always, I’d love it if you joined me on all of “My Journeys Through Life”! Just go to the top of the blog and enter your email into the “sign me up button, and you’ll never miss an update! Weekly Wrap-Up . . . Education for MOM! :-)

So, I have been exploring this thing called Zentangle for a little while now. When I first discovered it online, and read all the stories of people it was really helping in areas of relaxation, anxiety, even physical issues like shaky hands due to Parkinsons and other things, I knew I had to try it. Besides, it’s really, really beautiful, and you don’t even have to be an artist or have an art background to do it! I had been trying to learn what I could, from books and the internet. One favorite site is Tanglepatterns, which has an index of many, many patterns, complete with step-outs to show how to draw them.

This past weekend, I went to my very first Zentangle class with two Certified Zentangle Teachers. It was AWESOME! We learned ten different tangle patterns, and used them to make two zentangle tiles.

Here’s my first one, using patterns crescent moon, hollibaugh, printemps, static, and tipple.

During the second half of the class, we learned five more patterns, and made a tile using florz, hibred, ‘nzeppel, pokeroot and pokeleaf. Here is mine . . .

In both sessions, we also learned about aura-ing on some patterns, and how to shade to give our tiles dimension.

One of our teachers, Dennie York, has posted all of the tiles the class made on her blog dentangles. Go give it a look, and check out the rest of her blog too, it’s just become one of my favorites! 🙂
